English into Italian interpreting – MailUp Marketing conference

July 10, 2020 by

MailUp Marketing Conference is a digital marketing conference organised by MailUp, the most popular messaging in Italy.

Since the conference had International guests, MailUp offered to the audience the possibility of listening in Italian the English speeches, making the event more inclusive.

I partnered with MailUp since the first edition of the conference (held in 2017) providing the Italian>English simultaneous interpreting service and managing the technical assistance service.

Purchased service:English>Italian simultaneous interpreting, technical service

Collaboration: since 2017

Team: Giulia Carletti (interprete), Antonio Bacile (interprete), VERSO (service)

Market: Italy

Website: https://marketingconference.mailup.it/

Background

From their first conference, MailUp had a clear idea: since there were many attendants (around 500 people), they wanted everyone to be able to understand the four English-speaking guests.

Since the speeches would last around 45 minutes, we opted for the most agile solution in this case, which is simultaneous translation. On the event’s website, MailUp specified that an Italian translation would be available, so they could attract even those who were hesitant because they did not have an excellent grasp of English.

Palazzo Mezzanotte, the event location, has two large sound-proof booths equipped with consolle and microphone, so there was no need to rent that, but they still needed to rent the receivers for the guests.

My trusted service provided 100 receivers with single-use headset and technical support to the interpreters throughout the day.

Activities and results

Before the conference, I created a glossary on the topics which would be discussed by the speakers (e-mail marketing, engagement, conversational calculus, AI), which I also updated for the following editions of the events.

MailUp’s team provided us with the speakers’ slides beforehand, so the interpreters could be fully prepared on the topics.

On the day of the event, the service arrived a few hours before the start to organise everything and give the hostesses the receivers to be handed to the audience.

Us interpreters arrived at palazzo Mezzanotte around 45 minutes before the event started, to the test the equipment and be briefed by MailUp’s team; some of the speakers even had the time to walk us through their slides before going on stage and being interpreted by us.

The client’s feedback was very positive: “I had the chance to work with Giulia for our main event, MailUp Marketing Conference, in 2018. Giulia’s work was professional, efficient and impeccable. I hope we will work together again in future events”. The interpreting service allowed MailUp to invite prestigious International speakers and to appeal to a broader audience. The event was very stimulating, and all participants felt engaged and enriched by the experience.
