English into Italian translation for a Fashion brand

July 10, 2020 by

Since 2017 I have been collaborating with a renown US-based fashion brand which also sells in Italy; I become one of their go-to translators for both their training and their marketing materials.

Purchased service: English>Italian translation and proofreading

Collaboration: since 2017

Market: Italy

Background

In 2017, the brand decided to start managing in-house the translation of their contents and chose XTM as their assisted-translation tool.

After providing a translation sample and after an interview with several project managers and localisation managers, I was selected as one of their two go-to translators for the Italian market.

I then studied the brand’s communication guidelines and tone of voice so that my Italian translation would correctly reflect the spirit of the source while being localised for the local market.

Activities and results

Over the past few years, I translated and proofread several types of texts, intended both for internal use and for promotional purposes.

To better translate the copies for the staff, I visited their Milan flagship, where I could learn more about how the assistants work and refer to things, and I also received positive feedback on the translation I had produced thus far.

The type of texts for internal use include:

  • Sale manuals
  • Monthly product education (text and video)
  • Weekly newsletter
  • Corporate updates
  • Corporate sustainability policies
  • Product guides

Marketing materials include:

  • Promotional newsletters
  • Social media posts (Facebook, Instagram)
  • In-store signs
  • Labels and packagings

In order to use accurate and consistent terminology, I frequently discuss the translation of neologisms and internal acronyms with my manager and I update the translation memory. I always keep up with the brand’s activities and future initiatives thanks to monthly calls with the localisationmanagers..

The general feedback on my work has been positive. Laura says:

In the past 3 years of collaboration, Giulia has been a reliable partner, providing excellent translation skills along with great availability, even during peak times.
She worked around our needs, never missed a deadline and supplied an excellent service both for customer and employee-facing type of content.
She can grasp the company tone of voice and provide with creative solutions for product tools and marketing messages. She contributed to the creation of the Italian translation memory now used in the company and goes the extra mile to ensure the translation convey the essence of the source text, asking clarifying questions when needed.
She has always been open to feedback, and she is very passionate about her job, showing a willingness to take on board new challenges I strongly recommend her to anyone who seeks for a professional, reliable, honest and nice translator to work with..
